I have been involved in several areas of service to students. One area was that of track and field coach. Coaching gave me a great opportunity to build relationships with several of the middle school students, most of whom I would not have had opportunity to get know otherwise. It really helped build a great sense of community for me as a new teacher in the school. It was also a great learning challenge, as I had never coached before.
I have also been working as the student council sponsor for the elementary school. Our focus is to develop opportunities for celebrating our school, as well as fund raise for Ryan's Well (fresh water wells in Africa). As a school of fairly affluent students, I really liked the affect that promoting the Ryan's Well project had throughout the elementary student body. The kids were really excited about the idea of helping, and the student council kids were able to do a video presentation in promoting the project. So far, we've been able to raise about $400.00.
